How to Use an Automated Transcription App During Zoom Calls

Anyone else out there unable to read their own handwriting? Especially when you’re distracted or writing quickly? This is one of the reasons I never take notes in meetings. I write down what people said and end up missing what they’re saying. And then have no idea what I wrote.

Recently I started using Otter.ai which is a very cool transcription app. I originally used it as a way to quickly transcribe my clients’ podcasts. But then I realized it could also handle live transcriptions.

When I have a Zoom meeting with someone I meet at a networking group, I run Otter in the background. It records the audio of the meeting, and simultaneously transcribes everything. I can go back and tweak if needed (it runs about 90% accuracy, a bit less with proper names), then download it as a doc file that I can save and review if needed. The phone app also lets you do that during face-to-face meetings.

REMINDER – Always ask for permission to record first! Recording someone without their knowledge is not only illegal in many places, it’s downright creepy!

What apps have you found that make your life/business a bit easier?

Podcast – Stand Out from Your Competition by Being Unique

As someone who networks a LOT, I can’t help but cringe when someone tells me about their business and proudly announces “we can help everyone.” No, no you can’t, and if you try you are going to fail. Knowing what makes your company, your service, your product unique is the only thing that is going to make you stand out and succeed.

In the latest episode of B2B Marketing Excellence: A World Innovators PodcastDONNA PETERSON goes back to marketing basics. She dives into how to define the uniqueness of your company and how to focus on a specific niche audience. Are you brave enough to break from your comfort zone and go down a different path?

You can watch the episode here or listen via your favorite podcatcher.

Testimonial – How to Make Creating Your Podcast More Fun…

As many of you know, I don’t only produce other people’s podcasts, I also work as a consultant for those who want to do a podcast themselves, and just need some advice and guidance.

Rick Gabrielly and his partners wanted to start a podcast a few months ago and hired me to help get them going in the right direction. “The Road Ahead Café Podcast” is now about to hit its 20th episode and the guys are having the times of their lives.

Rick gave me a great testimonial that I couldn’t wait to share. He, Frank, and Peter are a joy to work with. Check out their podcast here – https://the-road-ahead-cafe.castos.com/

Podcasting is Easier Than You Think

One of my favorite podcast clients, DONNA PETERSON, recently posted a video on why she thinks podcasting is easier than most people think. And, with the right producer behind you, she’s right.

As a commercial podcast producer, I can do all the technical work you need to get a professional-sounding podcast put together, launched, and marketed.

If you’ve been thinking about doing a podcast of your own, reach out and let’s chat. I can coach you through the process if you want to do one yourself, or I can do all the work and you just have to show up and talk.

Testimonial – How Recording a Podcast is Easier Than You Think

“At the beginning, I was very apprehensive and nervous about the whole process, but Merrill made me feel very much at ease made me feel very confident of what I was doing.”

It’s Testimonial Tuesday! Thank you so much to my client Leo Fernandez* for his thumbs up.

Not everyone is comfortable talking into a microphone. That’s why, if you’re nervous about doing a podcast, you need a good producer. I work with my clients to help find the words that tell their story, coach them through the process, then if needed, edit the hell out the results in post-production.

If you ever want to do a podcast but were too apprehensive to try, reach out to me. It’s my job to make you sound calm, professional, and all-around fantastic.

Testimonial – How a Podcast Can Generate Client Connections

“We continue to use that podcast through our different online channels for interest inquiries and education as well as a good tool for business networking.”

It’s Testimonial Tuesday! Thank you so much to my client Ginny Hull Hartline* for her kind words.

If you’ve been wondering if a podcast would be a good marketing tool for growing your audience, reach out to me. I can coach you through creating your own, or you can just show up and talk and I’ll do all the work.
