Podcast – Marketing Mistakes All Businesses Make – Part 1

In this two-part podcast, host Donna Peterson and her guest Doug Glenn, Publisher of Heat Treat Today, talk about various marketing mistakes their companies made and what they learned from them. They then outline marketing tactics you should implement to be more effective.

They also discuss marketing philosophies that will help you build a relationship with your prospects that will instill trust, including:

  • Stop talking about yourself and talk about your customer’s needs and challenges.
  • You cannot help everyone – Specializing is scary but can be more profitable while you offer a better service.
  • There is so much more to marketing that cannot be reported by the number of leads or the ROI
  • Everyone is different and likes to consume different types of content
  • Don’t rush to get marketing materials out if you do not have a cohesive plan in place.

Running a business can be exciting and exhausting at the same time. If you implement some of these basic marketing tactics, it will help you be a bit more relaxed so you can set up a strategy that will help your company grow year after year.

Podcast – What to Expect from a Home Inspection

When’s the last time you had a check-up. No, not your body, your house.

If you’ve lived in the same house for over a decade, it may be a good idea to give it a top to bottom check-up. Most people think home inspections are only for when you’re buying or selling a home. But wouldn’t you rather find any potential problems now before they turn into disasters?

Listen in to this great conversation with home inspector Dominic Sciancalepore on why little things can sometimes grow into something nasty (and expensive).

Podcast – What’s Wrong with My Yard

It’s summer – it’s hot – and your yard may not be looking its best.

I found this interview fascinating regarding all the things I never thought about when it came to my yard. Grass is looking a little brown? Let’s water the hell out of it! How did I know I was probably making the problem worse!

In this episode of the LIPN Podcast, Dennis Realmuto shared over 40 years of experience in keeping his customers’ landscaping looking fantastic.

Podcast – How Do I Deal With Water Damage?

There’s a part of your house that is wet – and shouldn’t be.

While I recorded this interview a while ago, the information is still excellent, and unfortunately, somewhat timely.

A heavy rain last week overflowed our gutters and ended up getting into the house, soaking the edges of a carpet, and leaving that telltale mildewy smell.

In this podcast episode, Phil DePaul had some great advice on how to deal with water damage in your home, what can cause it (weather, plumbing, and startingly enough  –  fires), and what can happen if you ignore it.

Podcast – What Do I Need to Know About Homeowners Insurance?

What you don’t know about your homeowners policy can definitely hurt you.

I love interviewing people about a topic I think I know about – only to be happily surprised about how much I DON’T know about it. In the latest episode of the LIPN Podcast, Leo Fernandez gave a great overview of what homeowners insurance does and doesn’t cover.

Tree falls on your house – you’re covered. Squirrels invade your attic – you’re not. Someone trips on your sidewalk – you’re covered. You run over someone on your bicycle – you’re not.

If you think you know everything there is to know about your homeowners insurance, take a listen – you may be surprised as well.

Podcast – Should You Start a B2B Podcast?

“Business to business that’s more transactional, there’s really not that much you can say. Wherein something that is a service or something that is a complex product that needs more explaining, podcasts are great.”

My turn to be interviewed by Donna Peterson this week. We spoke about using podcasts as a marketing tool for B2B companies.

Podcasts are a great tool for long-form storytelling. You can talk about why your product or service exists, what problems they solve, talk about various applications, interview end-users, etc…

What you can’t (or shouldn’t) do is try to pitch. Podcast listeners are a savvy bunch, and the minute they think they’re listening to an infomercial, they’ll nope out.

Tell an engaging story – the sales will follow.
