I’m Merrill Loechner, Founder and Chief Storyteller, of Smith Douglass Associates.
A natural-born storyteller, I’ve spent the majority of my career in B2B marketing. I’ve worked primarily in fields where jargon was a problem – science, engineering, technology, law. Those positions have taught me how to translate complex ideas into engaging stories that customers, investors, and the press could understand and embrace.
In 2017, I stepped away from the corporate world to start my own agency, bringing my storytelling expertise to smaller businesses that struggle to find the best ways to reach their audiences.
Who Is Smith Douglass?
I named my agency after the two hardest working people I’ve known. Smith is my mother’s maiden name; Douglass was her mother’s maiden name. I’m a third generation of women who work.
Who Are My Associates?
While I’m experienced in just about every possible aspect of B2B marketing, I’m not an expert in all of them. So, I’ve built a network of trusted professionals with expertise in a wide range of marketing services, from social media specialists, web developers, and graphic designers, to full-service branding, advertising, and PR agencies.
Why Podcasts?
As a corporate commuter, I listened to hours of podcasts every week. I quickly realized that podcasts offered an incredible format for businesses to take the time they needed to tell their stories in depth. I then reached out to my local Chamber of Commerce to suggest they start a podcast for their members. “Great idea!” they said, “Go start one!”. And that was my first podcast. Since then, I have been producing podcasts for multiple clients in the business community.
